Project Name: PPM Implemented an Abacus Next ESP Solution


Scope: The District of Columbia Office of the Attorney General (OAG) sought a DC Supply Schedule Contractor to provide 390 licenses for Abacus Next case management system. This purchase included support for one year.

OAG is charged by statute with conducting the District's law business. With nearly 340 attorneys and 300 staff members dispersed throughout various divisions, OAG is one of the largest law offices in the District of Columbia and the 10th largest Attorney General's Office in the nation.

OAG procured Abacus Next, a commercial off-the-shelf legal case and document management system, from PPM. Abacus would be used by all attorneys and paralegals of to track matters and associated and their documents. Abacus Next also includes a calendaring module, an analytics engine used to track case status and attorney productivity, Existing interfaces, such as JUSTIS will be used with Abacus. OAG IT will install and configure Abacus in the District's Microsoft Azure tenant.

Forms Generation, Rules Based Calendaring, Case Management, Email Management and Document Management.

  • Full-featured mobile client for iPhone, Android, and tablet use.

  • Practice Area Legal Specialties - The following Practice Areal Legal Specialties (PALS) that were included and include intake forms, rules, custom reports, fillable forms and custom screens.

Customer Objectives Satisfied:

PPM through its implementation of AbacusNext, helped OAG attorneys streamline their case work using a commercial off the shelf (COTS) and document management system, to leveraging existing interfaces like JUSTIS and Microsoft Office (Azure). Abacus Next simplifies OAG legal operations including case management, time, billing and account operations. Forms Generation, Rules Based Calendaring, Case Management, Email Management and Document Management. Our installation also allows OAG attorneys to perform functions and leverage its content via their mobile devices.
